Job title: Senior Engineer Process Automation
Reports to the Engineering supervisor – Process Automation
Objectives
You will participate from a project role in engineering projects to automate the production and utilities installations.
Within these projects, you take the lead for any adjustments/improvements to the automation systems (e.g. PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, and electrical components in electrical process control installations) for the duration of the entire project: elaboration and/or delivery of various project phases: the planning, analysis & design, preparation of price quote requests, implementation, testing & qualification, up to the final aftercare and transfer of the project.
You maintain the OT infrastructure, help investigations of event/deviation and take ownership of some of OT system – and the training of colleagues on this system.
From an operational role, you are available to support other services within the company using your technical knowledge of automation systems and networks. You are also the central point of contact for communication with external automation partners, for technical questions, and for analysing and solving malfunctions in automation systems within the company.
Main responsibilities and result areas:
- Planning and Design:
-You analyse the needs of your internal customers in terms of your specialisation focus and set the engineering objectives;
-Using your technical knowledge, you translate these wishes into User Requirement Specifications (URS) and other specification documents, on the basis of which you will send a price quote request to a selection of external parties for the actual programming;
-You analyse the received price quotes and participate in the supplier selection process;
-You will work according to the set timelines and investment budgets, and you will monitor the coordination of the various parties involved;
-Within the Process Automation team you coordinate the tasks of other automation engineers (both internal and external) involved in your project team.
2. Implementation:
-You take the lead for the implementation of the automation tasks within projects;
-You take care of the implementation of the new installations within your focus area and you support internal and external project staff;
-You have the ability to develop, maintain, and strengthen good cooperation with other departments in order to provide them with information, assistance, and support.
3. Testing, verification, and qualification:
-You will prepare qualification (IOQ) documents as well as organize, coordinate, and participate in the various commissioning and verification steps (FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ) in order to demonstrate that the new or modified system meets the required specifications;
-You organize, supervise, and document tests and qualifications;
-You will play an active role in troubleshooting during the commissioning of the installation.
4. Aftercare and transfer:
-You play an active role in the commissioning of your subproject and transfer your knowledge to the internal customer.
5. Additional department-specific tasks:
-You manage various manufacturing software systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, data reporting/analysis tools, and electrical process control installations);
-You are a central point of contact regarding automation aspects; you help investigation from other departments in that regard;
-You manage the OT network infrastructure (server maintenance, bandwidth & load check…), with support of IT
- You do additional administration depending on the projects and quality (drawing up SOPs, user specifications, etc.)
- You are open to having night guard duty in the future.
Your profile:
- Level of education: Master in engineering or equivalent.
- You combine your talent for project management with a strong technical ability, and good analytical skills.
- Previous experience (minimum 5 years) within automation/OT environnement.
- Previous experience (minimum 3 years) within a quality-controlled sector (Pharma, Life Sciences, etc.) is an advantage.
- You have some experience working with networks (diagnostics, general maintenance, setting up routers, adding a server to a network…)
- You have proven experience in project management/coordination within automation projects.
- You have experience with qualification and verification of systems.
- You are willing to make the company’s production and technical installation knowledge your own.
- You are prepared to assist in the field if needed (for example, troubleshooting).
- You can work autonomously.
- You can guide other automation engineers (both internal and external).
- (Basic) knowledge of the following software packages is a big advantage (actual programming is not one of your tasks):
- PLC: Siemens Step7 and TIA Portal
- SCADA: Wonderware Intouch System Platform / Ignition
- MES: Pharmacim
- You are fluent in English and have a very good understanding of either French or Dutch, both spoken and written.
- You communicate both informally (within the Process Automation team, interdepartmentally, and with external parties) and formally (GMP documentation for support projects) through written and verbal communication.
- You are customer-oriented with a focus on output, teamwork, problem solving, research, improvements, and safety.
- You have a continuous learning mindset to stay current with industry trends and advancements.
