Function: Process Automation Engineer
Reports to the Supervisor – Process Automation
Objectives
In a project role, you will participate in engineering projects for the automation of production and utility installations.
Within these projects, you will take the lead in modifications/improvements to automation systems (including, for example, PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, and electrical components of process control installations) throughout the entire project duration: development and/or delivery of various project phases: planning, analysis & design, preparation of requests for quotations, implementation, testing phase, and qualification up to the final aftercare and transfer of the project.
In an operational role, you will be available to support other departments within the company with your technical knowledge of automation systems. You will also be the central point of contact for communication with external automation partners, for technical questions, and for analyzing and resolving malfunctions in automation systems within the company.
Key responsibilities and result areas:
1. Planning and Design:
- You analyze the needs of your internal customers in your area of specialization and define the engineering objectives.
- Using your technical knowledge, you translate these requirements into User Requirement Specifications (URS) and other specification documents, on the basis of which you will send a request for quotation to an external party for the actual reporting and other specification documents, based on which you will send a request for quotation to an external party for the actual programming;
- You analyze the quotations received and participate in the supplier selection process;
- You work in line with the set timelines and investment budgets, and you follow up on the coordination of the various parties involved.
2. Implementation:
- You take the lead in implementing automation tasks within projects;
- You are responsible for implementing new installations within your focus area and for supporting internal and external project staff;
- You have the ability to develop, maintain, and strengthen good cooperation with other departments in order to provide them with information, assistance, and support.
3.Testing, verification, and qualification:
- You prepare qualification (IOQ) documents and organize, coordinate, and participate in the various commissioning and verification steps (FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ) to demonstrate that the new or modified system meets the required specifications.
- You organize, supervise, and document testing and qualification.
- You play an active role in problem solving during the commissioning of the installation.
4. Aftercare and transfer:
You play an active role in the commissioning of your subproject and transfer your knowledge to the internal customer.
5. Additional department-specific tasks:
- You manage various software systems related to manufacturing (PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, data reporting/analysis tools, and electrical process control installations).
- You are the central point of contact for automation issues.
- You perform additional administrative tasks related to projects and quality (drafting SOPs, user specifications, etc.).
- You are willing to participate in a telephone on-call system in the future.
Profile:
- Education level: Industrial Engineer or equivalent through experience.
- You combine your talent for project management with solid technical knowledge.
- You are strong at analyzing and feel at home in a project/process environment.
- Previous experience (minimum 4 years) in Automation is a must.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical sector is an advantage.
- You have experience with qualification and verification of automation systems (e.g., GAMP 5).
- You are willing to acquire knowledge of production and technical installation.
- You are a go-getter and willing to help out in the field where necessary (e.g., troubleshooting).
- You can work independently.
- (Basic) knowledge of the following software packages is a major advantage (but programming itself is not part of your job description):
- PLC: Siemens Step7 and TIA Portal
- SCADA: Wonderware Intouch System Platform
- MES: Pharmacim
- You speak fluent Dutch and/or French and have a good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
- You communicate in writing and verbally, both informally (within the Process Automation team, interdepartmentally, and with external parties) and formally (GMP documentation for support projects).
- You are customer-oriented with a focus on output, interdepartmental teamwork, problem solving, research, improvements, and safety.
